New direction of value-based education Shri Mahavir Jain Vidya Mandir, Barod (Madhya Pradesh)

In a very inspiring, spiritual and enthusiastic atmosphere, the inauguration of the new 18,000 square feet school building of Shri Mahavir Jain Vidya Mandir, Barod was completed. It was not just the inauguration of a building, but an important beginning towards building a nation with Indian culture, Jain philosophy and sanskars.

On this historic occasion, saints, social workers, educationists, devout Hindus and a large number of people from different parts of Madhya Pradesh including the Malwa region were present. The entire programme conveyed the message that modern education alone is not enough unless it incorporates sanskar, ethics, discipline, compassion and spirituality.

The new school complex is a living symbol of the ancient Indian and Jain tradition in which gymnasium and school should co-exist. The windows give direction to the soul and the school to the intellect. When there is a confluence of both, then the society produces not only successful individuals, but also cultured, sensitive and responsible citizens.

Today, when the whole world is looking for a value-based education system, institutions like Shri Mahavir Jain Vidya Mandir seem to be realizing the spirit of India’s New Education Policy (NEP). The new education policy also emphasizes on holistic development, Indian knowledge tradition, moral education, life skills and character building, not just bookish knowledge.

This school can become a centre of inspiration in the future where students get education in science, mathematics and modern technology as well as non-violence, sobriety, guru-bhakti, environmental protection, Jeevdaya and Indian life values.

Particularly inspiring is the idea that shows the spirit of reviving ancient Indian knowledge traditions: * 64 Arts – Life skills, arts and culture for women * 72 Arts – Miscellaneous Abilities and Life Skills for Men * 100 Crafts – Practical Skills, Handicrafts, Technical Knowledge, Creativity and Employability Education

These were not merely historical subjects, but a complete system of education that made one balanced, cultured, skilled and spiritually rich. If these are integrated with modern education, the new generation of India can be globally competent as well as remain connected to its roots.

A positive energy was clearly felt in the atmosphere during the opening ceremony. a hope that even in this era of modernity, the new generation can be connected with the sacraments; Culture can be kept alive with spirituality, compassion with competition, and progress with technology.

Today, Shri Mahavir Jain Vidya Mandir, Barod is not just a school building but has emerged as a symbol of India’s bright future – a future where education becomes not just a medium of employment but a sacred instrument of character building, culture preservation, social service and awakened citizenry.
